How Google Drive and Google photos work together?

Many of you store your photos and videos on both Google Drive and Google Photos, which keeps them safe and straightforward to access. We’ve heard feedback that the connection between these services is confusing, so next month, we’re making some changes to simplify the experience across Drive and Photos.

Changes to automatic sync between Google Drive and Google Photos

Starting in July, new photos and videos from Drive won’t automatically show in Photos. Similarly, new photos and videos in Photos won’t be added to the Photos folder in Drive. Photos and videos you delete in Drive won’t be faraway from Photos. Similarly, items you delete in Photos won’t be faraway from Drive. this alteration is meant to assist prevent accidental deletion of things across products.

New “Upload from Drive” feature in Google Photos

We’ve heard that a lot of you’d like more granular control when copying photos and videos from Drive into Photos. So we’re bringing a replacement feature to photos.google.com called “Upload from Drive,” which allows you to manually choose photos and videos from Drive,

including “Shared with Me” items, to import into Photos. Once copied, these things aren’t connected between the 2 products. Since photos and videos will not sync across both products, items copied in Original Quality will count towards your storage quota in both Drive and Photos.

Backup and Sync for Windows and Mac will still work

You’ll still be ready to use Backup and Sync on Windows or macOS to upload to both services in top quality or Original Quality.

As before, items uploaded in top quality won’t count against your account storage quota, and items uploaded using Backup and Sync in Original Quality to both services will count just one occasion towards your quota.

Your existing photos and videos will stay in Google Drive and Google Photos

Any photos or videos from Drive in Photos that you simply have uploaded before this alteration will remain in Photos. If you’ve got a “Google Photos” folder in Drive, it’ll remain in Drive, but will not update automatically.

Our goal with these changes is to simplify some features that caused confusion for our users, supported feedback, and our own research. We’ll still search for more ways to assist support Drive and Photos users going forward.

If you would like to require a better check out these new changes, please inspect our guide.

Reviews

Best thing ever!
I’ve had ALL of my photos and videos from the last 10 years saved ONLY on my computer up until I discovered Google Photos. I can’t even tell you ways stressful it’s having all of your memories, from my wedding photos… to my kid’s entire childhoods.

everything from birth to current day – all reliant on a tool that’s over a decade old. I swear I even have nightmares about my computer malfunctioning and losing all records of those memories disappearing permanentlyI even have found such relief in knowing that everything I cherish from my past is now safe and simply accessible with Google Photos!

The feeling of security is priceless, (and free), but that’s just the start. Google Photos recognizes faces and is in a position to look for specific people throughout the various years.

It knows my children’s ever-changing faces from birth to now, which is amazing.. it puts together memories to seem back on of this go back past years and features a super easy to use the search system.

I can look for events like “Christmas” or “Easter” and have every photo stored on these holidays from past years at my fingertips. For my Mom’s birthday I used to be ready to put together a photo book by checking out photos containing – my Mom, my Mom and myself, my Mom, and my kids. This thing may be a wizard!

Stores my photos as long as they’re not 4K
It’s a touch confusing but what they’re storing on behalf of me is pretty adequate for my needs.

it might be nice to understand I used to be storing the first quality but I don’t need another monthly bill besides Google Drive. It’s awesome the way they rotate a number of the photos for you or offer you that option.

I wish they might do more in terms of the face recognition in order that you’ll correctly date a number of your photographs were the dates were stripped within the uploading process which on behalf of me was a touch of a hellish experience because it crashed while uploading.

I got past all that and everything I own is in my Google library I just don’t have them sorted properly. I’m hoping this may be done automatically within the future using the face recognition technology otherwise I even have to spend years fixing my library.

Another suggestion would be if they might show you your duplicates which are on the brink of exact duplicates in order that you’ll delete them on your own. Sometimes it appears to be refusing duplicates but it’s hard to inform exactly what Google is doing behind the scenes occasionally I’ll see a replica missing other times I find odd photos in my trash. it might be nice to understand exactly what’s happening with them folders. Those are all my suggestions and why I don’t have five stars I appreciate the free storage in the meantime hoping I won’t need to accompany higher quality photos within the future.

Hands down the best app for keeping & sharing life’s most memorable moments
Hands down, the simplest app for safe-keeping & family sharing of life’s most memorable moments. Super easy to navigate all of the features like saving all of the important details, like location, time & date, and captions of photos to share with others. As a busy, single mom of two, this app may be a lifesaver on my behalf.

I can share my children’s milestones with family & friends with such ease so regardless of how near or far they’rethey will watch my babies as they grow. I even have a closet filled with craft & scrapbook supplies that I even have picked over here and there but with juggling my career and my 2 little girls, I feel I never get the prospect to truly sit down, undergo the photographs & videos, take a stroll down memory lane and convey all of my amazing Pinterest crafts to life.

Google Photos has simplified the overwhelming fear of feeling like there are numerous important details that I won’t remember while scrapbooking my 2 girls.

It simplified the task of browsing and sorting my pics & videos I’ve protected over the years and it’s helped me to be ready to organize and group memorable moments from their birth in order that I can start to place these special books of their most memorable moments together.

Google has now officially uncoupled Google Photos from Google Drive, and therefore the two Google storage services not automatically keep their photos in sync. meaning photos you’ve uploaded to at least one service, and any changes you create to them, not reliably show up within the other place.

Google says it made the change because some people found the connection confusing. But if you wish to have your photos synced, we’ve found a workaround that will assist you to keep Google Drive and Google Photos in lockstep. And to assist, Google features a tool to assist you to retain the 2 apps in sync.
